The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is pleased to welcome 12 students and their professor, Dr. Samy Ayoub, from the University of Texas at Austin as part of their university’s “Ottoman State and Society” Maymaster study abroad program.
During their 20-day stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the participants will take part in an immersive academic experience focused on the history, society, and enduring legacy of the Ottoman Empire, with Sarajevo serving as a unique living classroom. Through a combination of lectures, site visits, and direct engagement with the country’s cultural and historical landscape, students will gain valuable insight into a period that continues to shape the region’s identity.
The project is led by Prof. Dr. Joseph J. Kaminski from the Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) study program, together with Assistant Hanan Babić from the Management (MAN) study program, who is serving as the main logistics coordinator.
Throughout the program, students will not only attend lectures, but also visit important historical and cultural landmarks that reflect the rich Ottoman heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to exploring Sarajevo, the group will travel to several other cities across the country, including Mostar, Blagaj, Travnik, Jajce, and Srebrenica, further broadening their understanding of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s historical depth, cultural diversity, and social complexity.
By hosting this study abroad program, IUS once again reaffirms its commitment to international academic cooperation, experiential learning, and intercultural exchange. The University is proud to provide a meaningful environment in which students from abroad can deepen their academic knowledge while engaging directly with the history, heritage, and diversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
IUS remains dedicated to creating opportunities that connect global perspectives with local realities, offering students transformative learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
