Master’s students from the Architecture (ARCH) program at the IUS Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), accompanied by their professor, Associate Prof. Dr. Adi Ćorović, paid an educational visit to the Sarajevo Historical Archives.
The visit was held within the Archives’ Open Days activities organized in connection with March 1 - Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Students were welcomed at the Archives’ depot facility, where they were introduced to technical archival materials and documentation relevant to their practical training and field-based learning.
This activity also reflected the established cooperation between the Sarajevo Historical Archives and IUS, formalized through a signed agreement that enables the use of archival collections for academic purposes. During the visit, students reviewed technical records related to the depot building and then toured the entire facility - both indoor and outdoor areas - to gain a full understanding of the space and its current condition.
In the weeks ahead, under Dr. Ćorović’s mentorship, the students will develop a practical project focused on proposing sanitation measures and reconstruction solutions for the depot facility. As the main storage site of the Archives, the building is designed to meet preservation needs, yet it also presents a number of functional challenges. The Archives expressed hope that the students’ work could offer realistic ideas and potential improvements that may support the long-term protection of archival materials.
The IUS delegation was received by the Director of the Sarajevo Historical Archives, Ms. Ismeta Džigal Berkovac, together with her team. Materials for the visit were prepared by colleagues from the Department for Accommodation, Use, and Technical Protection of Archival Materials and the Library Fund, including department head Mr. Haris Zaimović and senior archivist Mr. Saša Beltram, who also guided students through the depot during the tour.
