Third NATURED Project Partner Meeting Held in Split/Kaštela

As part of the NATURED Project, the third partner meeting was held on October 23, 2025, in Kaštela, Croatia. The meeting was hosted by RERA – Development Agency of the Split-Dalmatia County, the project partner from the Republic of Croatia.

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) was represented by Dr. Ismar Alagić, Project Coordinator of NATURED at IUS.

At the beginning of the meeting, participants were introduced to the experiences of the Municipality of Kaštela in applying nature-based solutions (NbS) to prevent the negative effects of climate change, with particular emphasis on the prevention of pluvial flooding. In addition, presentations were given on activities within the planning process titled “Green Split-Dalmatia County” – the Kaštela Action Plan.

Mr. Marco Affronte, representing the project’s lead partner, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the successful implementation of the NATURED project.

The management session of the meeting included a review of the project’s progress over the past fifteen months, partner reporting to the donor, and panel discussions on the implementation of Activity A3.1 (Stakeholder and Citizen Debates) and Activity A3.2 (Definition of the Action Plan with NbS Solutions).

Each partner presented updates on their respective pilot activities within the project. Dr. Alagić presented the results of the debates held with stakeholders and citizens in the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, proposals for a Joint Action Strategy including NbS solutions, and an overview of the next steps planned within the project framework.

The NATURED Project (Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilient and Green Adriatic-Ionian Cities and Regions) is co-funded by the Interreg VI-B IPA Adriatic-Ionian (ADRION) Programme 2021–2027. It aims to strengthen regional capacities for climate resilience and environmental protection through the implementation of sustainable, nature-based solutions across partner cities and municipalities.
