The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly announces that Associate Professor Dr. Altijana Hromić-Jahjefendić, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), and Associate Professor Dr. Emil Knezović, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Administration 8FBA), and have successfully secured a research grant from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Higher Education.
The awarded project, "Pyrosafe: Research and Market Readiness of Pyrophyllite Disinfection Handles," focuses on developing innovative door handles incorporating pyrophyllite as a disinfectant agent. Through experimental research and market analysis, the project aims to assess the effectiveness of these handles in reducing surface contamination and evaluate their commercial viability.
Both professors already collaborated on the DeepGreenInno project, funded by EIT HEI, which focuses on sustainable innovations in materials science and entrepreneurship. Their continued partnership in this new project reinforces their dedication to applied research with tangible industry and societal benefits, which further strengthens the interdisciplinary collaboration between the two faculties.
The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), by fostering sustainable solutions in public health and the material processing industry.
