On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as part of the IUS Winter School “Show & Tell,” the English Language and Literature (ELIT) and English Language and Literature, Teaching (ELT) study programs hosted an engaging workshop for high school students interested in studying English and exploring university life at IUS.
The session opened with introductions to the programs and teaching staff, giving participants a closer look at what makes studying English at IUS both academically strong and creatively inspiring. Dr. Damir Kahrić introduced the academic team, presented the courses they teach, and highlighted interdisciplinary initiatives - such as the collaboration with VACD exploring Kara-sevdah & Shakespeare.
To help students understand the structure of the programs, Dr. Emina Jelešković guided participants through the curriculum, including university electives, core program courses, foreign language options, and internship opportunities. Adding to the multilingual dimension of the programs, Prof. Dženana Uzunović presented the Italian language courses available, showcasing the breadth of language learning at IUS.
The workshop also offered a valuable insight into student experience beyond the classroom. Assistant Ajla Pervan spoke about student life, social media communication, and extracurricular opportunities, including student clubs and the programs’ International Youth Conference. Dr. Vesna Suljić then presented Erasmus+ opportunities and discussed potential career paths after graduation, helping participants connect their studies with future professional directions.
The program concluded with a hands-on workshop led by Prof. Maja Olovčić, followed by personal reflections from students Lamija and Džejlana, who shared their experiences and highlighted the supportive, dynamic environment of ELIT and ELT.
By combining academic guidance, creative exploration, and authentic student perspectives, the workshop offered prospective students an inspiring introduction to the spirit of ELIT & ELT. The departments look forward to welcoming many of these participants again - hopefully as future IUS students this October.
