Himzo Hasak, a proud graduate of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), completed his degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) - but his academic journey went far beyond the standard curriculum. Alongside his CSE studies, he took nearly all Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EE) courses as electives, building a strong interdisciplinary foundation that connects software development with electronics, mathematics, PLC systems, and embedded computing.

This combination later helped Himzo pursue a Master’s degree in Embedded Computing Systems, strengthening his specialization at the intersection of hardware and software. Even before graduation, he gained valuable industry experience as a part-time Backend Developer at RunIT, where he applied his knowledge in real projects and sharpened the professional skills needed for full-time work.

After graduation, Himzo joined Loxone, an Austria-based smart home and home automation company known for developing complete, integrated solutions for modern living - ranging from sensors and devices to servers and applications. In his current role, Himzo develops the logic behind a configuration program that helps electricians efficiently set up and customize smart home systems. He also works on decision-making logic for various function blocks, including intelligent ventilation systems that automatically respond to air quality while optimizing energy use.

Reflecting on his time at IUS, Himzo highlights the importance of choosing Computer Science as a key milestone, while also emphasizing how EE electives - supported by dedicated and inspiring professors - expanded his knowledge and confidence in complex technical topics. Beyond academics, he values the international campus environment and student life experiences that helped shape his independence and adaptability. He was also active in student activities, contributing as a pianist in the EMSA club and playing basketball during his student days.

Himzo credits several professors for their mentorship and impact on his development, noting that strong relationships and meaningful connections can open important doors - especially early in a career. While some opportunities came through recommendations, his role at Loxone was the result of a focused and proactive job search, driven by his clear interest in smart home and embedded development.

To current IUS students, Himzo offers simple but powerful advice: follow what genuinely interests you. Passion leads to consistency, growth, and long-term success. His story is a testament to the value of interdisciplinary learning - and how an IUS education can lead to exciting careers in the rapidly evolving world of smart technologies.
