Eda Güleç, a distinguished alumna of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), earned her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, developing a strong base in both the creative and technical sides of the profession. Her studies at IUS covered architectural theory, structural systems, sustainable design, and project management—equipping her for a multidisciplinary career that connects architecture with management and legal expertise in the construction industry.

Looking back on her student years, Eda Güleç describes IUS as a truly transformative experience—one that went well beyond lectures and studio work. The university’s interdisciplinary approach and international environment strengthened her critical thinking, adaptability, and leadership. Studying abroad also pushed her to navigate new cultural, academic, and personal challenges, helping her build resilience, independence, and a global perspective that still shapes her work today.

After graduating, Eda Güleç continued her education with a master’s degree, deepening her knowledge of architecture and construction practices. Driven by a commitment to lifelong learning, she later began a second master’s degree in Construction Law at Istanbul University, gaining advanced insight into contracts, regulations, and the legal frameworks that guide the construction sector.

This rare combination of architectural and legal expertise opened the door to a long and meaningful career in the public sector. There, she worked as an architect focused on building regulations, zoning legislation, and construction permits. Over time, she became recognized for her expertise in construction law and compliance, which also enabled her to serve as a certified expert witness in architectural and construction-related legal cases.

A major turning point came when health-related challenges led her to transition from public service to the private sector. Building on her extensive experience, Eda Güleç took on a managerial role at GÜL-ER-KA Construction, an established company founded in 1996 and guided by the motto “Building Trust Since 1996.” In her current position, she oversees operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and contributes to strategic decision-making—helping deliver projects that meet high standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.

GÜL-ER-KA Construction is known for its commitment to earthquake safety, ethical values, and people-centered engineering. Through its involvement in urban transformation projects, the company prioritizes certified materials and strict adherence to the latest earthquake regulations—principles that closely align with Eda Güleç’s professional standards and strong sense of social responsibility.

Alongside her professional responsibilities, Eda Güleç remains dedicated to giving back—both to IUS and to the wider community. During her public-sector career, she mentored many interns, sharing practical knowledge in construction regulations and project management. Today, she continues to support architects and engineers in the private sector, encouraging their growth through guidance, mentorship, and leadership.

Eda Güleç also highlights the lasting impact of several IUS faculty members who shaped her academic and professional path. She is especially grateful to Dr. Edin Jahić, Dr. Adnan Zoranić, Dr. Alma Hudović-Kljuno, and Leila Krivošić, whose mentorship left a meaningful mark—from engineering and statics to architectural design, ethics, and project management.

Looking ahead, Eda Güleç remains focused on growth and innovation. After completing her second master’s degree, she plans to further strengthen her leadership and sustainability expertise through the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. In parallel, she aims to expand national and international construction projects while championing sustainable practices, ethical standards, and social responsibility across the industry.

Eda Güleç’s journey is a strong reminder of how resilience, lifelong learning, and a solid foundation at IUS can lead to leadership in both the public and private sectors. The International University of Sarajevo proudly celebrates her achievements and looks forward to her continued contribution to building safer, more sustainable, and trusted environments.
