International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly and festively bid farewell to its graduates on Friday, June 17, 2022. The graduation ceremony was organized for the 14th generation of IUS graduates at the University Campus. 270 young people completed an important milestone in their education and are about to start a new chapter in their lives.
The ceremony was attended by numerous prominent guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkiye as well as family members and friends. Among the attendees were Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye, His Excellency Mr. Sadık Babür Girgin, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Rector of the University of Sarajevo Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and many other distinguished guests and friends of IUS.
The welcoming speech was held by the IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım who addressed the attendees and said that „as individuals with these characteristics, IUS graduates will not only serve humanity in the field they graduated from, but also make significant contributions to the world peace. I sincerely believe that all our graduates will be ambassadors of both IUS and peace”.
The President of the Foundation for Education Development Sarajevo (SEDEF) Mr. Hasan Topaloğlu also addressed the audience stating that the SEDEF Foundation will always assist and support successful graduates who would like to pursue their studies in academia and emphasized that “we will continue supporting such graduates to become academicians at our university in the future. Due to the current economic conditions in the world, we are doing our best to support our students by providing scholarships more than ever”.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye Mr. Çavuşoğlu delivered a speech at the ceremony and stated that the Republic of Turkiye works hard on opening space for diplomacy and dialogue in the areas of conflict. He also underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a special place in the hearts of Turkish people adding that “President Erdoğan is personally involved in the efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region. We are in regular contact with all parties”. In addition, Mr. Çavuşoğlu presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Anes Kadić, President of the IUS Student Parliament for his outstanding service and contribution to IUS.
The best undergraduate students from each faculty were awarded with 100% scholarships for their future Master studies and presented with a valuable gift. The Valedictorian of the Class of 2022 was Fejsal Perva who studied Software Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS). He addressed the audience and thanked his professors and family for all the support during his studies. Mr. Perva also expressed his gratitude to the SEDEF Foundation who granted him a scholarship and thus helped him pursue the career he wanted. In the end, he called on his fellow students not to forget each other as friends made at the University are the most valuable.
The ceremony ended with fireworks and the tradition of tossing hats in the air.
Since 2004, IUS has awarded more than 3000 Bachelor, Master and PhD diplomas to young people who studied in an international environment with students from more than 45 countries and academic staff from more than 12 countries. The generous SEDEF Foundation scholarship scheme enabled these IUS graduates to pursue quality education, enjoy and get the best out of their university years.
IUS is honored to have been a part of the academic journey on which these young men and women embarked and wishes them lots of happiness, success and health.
