Students of Industrial Engineering visit Arcelor Mittal Zenica

As part of the Manufacturing Process Course, group of students lead by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cevat Sarioğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, visited Arcelor Mittal Zenica on May 11, 2010. The group of nine students and Prof Sarioğlu traveled to Zenica and spent four hours observing the process of steel manufacturing. They visited: sinter plant, blast furnace, rolling mills and power plant.

Iron and Steel Works Zenica was established in 1892 by a group of Austrian industrials. The location was chosen on the basis of natural benefits, the large energy coal deposits in Zenica, the vicinity of the iron ore mines, and the availability of communication lines along the valley of the river Bosnia.

Current capacity of production is 1 million tons per year. There are over 3,000 employees. At the moment, the installation of monitoring equipment for dust and polluting gas emission is in the last phase.
