The first round of the 2026 International Summer School at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) has successfully concluded, marking the end of an inspiring month filled with language learning, academic exploration, cultural discovery and new friendships.
Throughout July, IUS welcomed a total of 44 students from different parts of the world through its two-week and four-week Summer School programs. A group of 28 students completed the two-week program earlier in the month, while an additional 16 participants received their certificates upon completing the four-week program.
Organized by the IUS English Language School (ELS) and Sedefbosnia d.o.o., the program continued the University’s long-standing tradition of creating meaningful international learning experiences for young people. This year marked the 20th edition of the IUS English Language Summer School.
Learning English through Experience
During their stay at IUS, participants attended 25 hours of intensive English language instruction each week. Classes were delivered by experienced instructors in a multicultural environment and focused on developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Rather than learning only through traditional classroom activities, students were encouraged to use English actively in practical situations, group work, interactive exercises and everyday communication. This approach helped them strengthen their language skills while also becoming more confident and independent.
The program also gave students an opportunity to experience university life firsthand, meet peers from different backgrounds and communicate in English throughout their daily activities on campus.
Exploring New Interests
In addition to language classes, students took part in a diverse selection of workshops and elective academic courses designed to encourage creativity, curiosity and critical thinking.
The program included practical activities in robotics and coding, photography, television production, 3D printing, digital design, electronics, drawing and illustration, as well as mock trial exercises.
Participants also explored a range of academic fields, including law, psychology, cybersecurity, microbiology, financial literacy, architecture and visual arts. All activities were delivered in English, allowing students to develop both their language abilities and their understanding of different areas of study.
Through these experiences, participants were able to discover new interests, develop practical skills and gain a clearer sense of the academic opportunities available at university level.
Discovering Bosnia and Herzegovina
Beyond the classroom, the Summer School offered a rich social and cultural program.
During the weekends, students visited Sarajevo, Travnik, Mostar and Srebrenica, discovering the history, culture and natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These excursions allowed them to learn more about the country’s unique heritage while creating lasting memories together.
Sports activities, city tours and social events further contributed to the welcoming atmosphere of the program and helped participants build friendships across cultures.
For many students, the Summer School was not only an opportunity to improve their English, but also their first experience of studying abroad, living on a university campus and becoming part of an international community.
A Summer to Remember
The completion of the July programs was celebrated with certificate presentations for all participants.
IUS sincerely thanks all the students who took part in this year’s first Summer School round and contributed to making the experience so special. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and positive energy brought the campus to life throughout July.

As the July program comes to an end, IUS is now preparing to welcome the next group of Summer School participants in August. Another exciting period of learning, cultural exchange and discovery is about to begin, continuing the University’s commitment to providing young people with memorable international educational experiences.
