As part of the NATURED project, Dr. Ismar Alagić, NATURED Project Coordinator at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), visited the Public Company for the Management and Maintenance of Facilities Owned by the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo “ONSA” d.o.o.
During the visit, Dr. Alagić met with Mr. Anel Tahirbegović, MSc, Director of ONSA, and his associate Mr. Nijaz Đozo. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the activities carried out so far within the NATURED project, as well as to discuss the achieved results and future steps.
Special attention was given to the activities currently implemented by the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo in the field of urban greening and the application of nature-based solutions (NbS) aimed at reducing the negative effects of climate change. The discussion also focused on possible interventions that could help address the urban heat island effect and improve climate resilience in local communities.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to establish cooperation between IUS and ONSA in the coming period. This cooperation will focus on pilot activities based on nature-based solutions designed to reduce the negative effects of heat islands, as well as on aligning strategic documents with policies aimed at preventing and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Through the NATURED project and cooperation with local partners, IUS continues to support practical, research-based, and community-oriented approaches to sustainability, climate adaptation, and more resilient urban development.
