IUS hosts participants of EU supported program

Visit of His Excellency, Mr. Koksal Toptan, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

Sarajevo, July 15th to 22nd 2009

In the period from July 15th to 22nd, IUS hosted a group of 45 young people from Germany, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey who took part in the EU supported program „Youth in Action 2007-2013“ with the project titled „World Redlines: Ethnic, Regional and Religious Discrimination“. This visit was organised by the Ankara Thought and Research Centre (ADAM) from Turkey and involved a series of lectures held at IUS premises on the topic of discrimination and the dimensions of war against Bosnia-Herzegovina (1992-1995). Amongst many prominent public figures that gave lectures, was the new IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. B. Gültekin Çetiner.

„The aim of this project is to increase awareness about discrimination and not to let similar incidents (like the Bosnian massacre) happen ever again“ said Mr. Hasan Akin, member of the project's Organising Committee. Mr. Akin also used the opportunity to express his satisfaction with the visit and thank IUS for the given premises and hospitality.

During their stay in Bosnia, the group of students visited popular historical, cultural and tourist spots in our country such as Mostar, Travnik and Goražde. With this they hoped to create bonds between the countries. As Mr. Huseyin Sekerli told us, many of the visitors were positively suprised. „We loved Bosnia. Everyone is shocked with it's beauty“ he said.
