The Architecture (ARCH) study program team, led by Assistant Prof. Dr. Nerma Omičević, ARCH Program Coordinator and Ms. Nihan Zeynep Malčinović, Program Assistant, has successfully redesigned the lobbies and balconies of Buildings A and B, transforming them into greener, calmer, and more welcoming spaces for students and staff.
As part of the initiative, carefully selected plants were introduced and arranged throughout shared indoor and semi-outdoor areas, bringing natural elements into everyday campus life. The refreshed spaces now provide a more pleasant atmosphere that supports well-being, informal interaction, and day-to-day academic routines.
The redesign also reflects a clear commitment to sustainability. By integrating greenery into high-traffic university areas, the project promotes environmental awareness and contributes to a healthier campus environment. These efforts align with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - particularly those related to Sustainable Cities and Communities, Good Health and Well-Being, and Responsible Consumption and Production.
This initiative highlights how thoughtful architectural and landscape interventions - implemented on a modest scale - can create meaningful impact: improving the quality of shared spaces while reinforcing the University’s broader sustainability vision.
