An online accreditation review meeting for the ADRION Joint Transnational Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy was held from July 27 to 31, 2026.
Representatives of all eight partner universities involved in the project took part in the five-day meeting, during which the programme’s academic structure, institutional framework, regional relevance and planned implementation were presented to an international review committee.
The review was conducted by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), the Greek national accreditation authority. The Accreditation Committee consisted of Prof. Yani Skarlatos from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Prof. Andreas Andreou from the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, Prof. Konstantinos Kopsidas from the University of Manchester and Zoi-Lina Koutsogianni from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Eight Universities United around Renewable Energy Education
The ADRION Joint Transnational Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy was presented by representatives of the participating institutions, including Prof. Lefteris Amanatides from the University of Patras, Dr. Linda Zardo from IUAV University of Venice, Prof. Mario Vašak from the University of Zagreb, Prof. Leo Mršić from Algebra Bernays University, Prof. Ismar Alagić from the International University of Sarajevo, Assist. Prof. Bane Popadić from the University of Novi Sad and Prof. Dr. Ilirjana Boçi from the University of Tirana.
The International University of Sarajevo was represented by Prof. Ismar Alagić from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
Throughout the sessions, the participants presented the programme’s curriculum, quality assurance mechanisms, governance model, mobility structure, teaching methodology and expected contribution to the renewable energy sector across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
The review panel provided positive verbal feedback on the programme’s organization, structure and broader regional impact. The consortium is now awaiting the panel’s final written report.
The contributions of all participating university representatives were substantial and important for presenting the programme’s academic strengths, collaborative character and future potential.
A Joint Programme Connecting Six Countries
The ADRION Joint Transnational Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy is based on cooperation among six countries representing different parts of the Adriatic-Ionian area.
The partnership includes three European Union countries — Greece, Italy and Croatia — and three IPA countries — Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Albania.
The programme brings together eight university partners:

- University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Croatia
- Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering, Italy
- Algebra Bernays University, Department of Computing, Croatia
- University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Serbia
- International University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- University of Tirana, Department of Industrial Chemistry, Albania
The University of Patras serves as the lead partner of the consortium.
In the previous period, the lead partner received an official letter from the IPA ADRION Programme regarding the provisional approval of the ADRION TRAINEE Transnational Master funding proposal. This represents an important step in the process, while further work and coordinated efforts by all partner universities remain necessary during the accreditation and implementation phases.
A Two-Year, Challenge-Based Master’s Programme
The ADRION Joint Transnational Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy is designed as a comprehensive, full-time, two-year programme consisting of four semesters and 120 ECTS credits.
Unlike executive-style programmes, it is conceived as a scientific and challenge-based Master’s programme that combines advanced academic knowledge with practical and regional energy-transition challenges.
The programme integrates the specific expertise and specializations of the national Master’s programmes offered by the eight partner universities. Its interdisciplinary curriculum is designed to encourage scientific thinking, problem-solving, mobility and cooperation across institutional and national boundaries.
Through a combination of in-person teaching and online activities, students are expected to benefit from the academic resources, research expertise and professional networks of all partner institutions.
Supporting the Energy Transition in the Adriatic-Ionian Region
The programme responds to the growing importance of renewable energy and energy-transition topics throughout the Adriatic-Ionian region.
Its objective is not only to educate a new generation of renewable energy professionals, but also to strengthen the capacities of businesses, universities, research institutions and civil society organizations.
By connecting academia, research and the business sector, the programme aims to support knowledge exchange, innovation and the development of practical solutions for the energy transition.
Its main strategy is based on a transdisciplinary approach grounded in mutual learning and context-based knowledge. The programme also promotes student and staff mobility and encourages cooperation among institutions with diverse academic, scientific and professional backgrounds.
The meeting held from July 27 to 31 represented an important step in the ongoing accreditation process and in the continued development of the ADRION Joint Transnational Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy.
