On 17 July 2026, Ms. Fikreta Fetahović Maljić, Senior Associate for Language in the Turkish Language and Literature-Teaching study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), successfully defended her PhD dissertation at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, marking a significant milestone in her academic career.
The dissertation was supervised by distinguished professors from the University of Sarajevo, including Prof. Dr. Kerima Filan (Supervisor) and Prof. Dr. Sabina Bakšić from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, together with Prof. Dr. Merima Osmankadić from the Department of English Language and Literature.
The dissertation, entitled "Translation of Media Discourse from Bosnian into Turkish and from Turkish into Bosnian," examines the complexities of mediating meaning between two typologically distinct languages, Bosnian and Turkish, through the analysis of thematic structure, cohesion, and coherence in media discourse. Drawing on theories of linguistic universals, text linguistics, Systemic Functional Linguistics, discourse analysis and translation studies, the research offers valuable insights into translation, language teaching, and cross-linguistic communication.
