The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly announces its position as the 1653rd most sustainable university in the world according to the prestigious UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, which includes universities from 105 countries.
This achievement confirms IUS’s ongoing commitment to implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sustainable practices across Campus life. According to the official report, IUS scored a total of 1,995 points, with notable performance in the following categories: Education and Research – 772.5 points (strongest category), thanks to sustainability-related courses, international collaborations, and student initiatives, transportation – 422.5 points, through policies promoting pedestrian zones and reducing private vehicle use, and Infrastructure Development – 575 points, aimed at creating a greener campus.
UI GreenMetric provides a global platform for measuring universities’ progress in sustainability and encourages the exchange of innovative practices. IUS’s participation demonstrates that the university not only follows global trends but actively contributes to transforming higher education toward a sustainable future.
IUS stands as the leading university in Bosnia and Herzegovina for sustainability, setting a benchmark for excellence in SDG implementation. Sustainable Development Goals have been integrated into the University’s Strategic Plans in 2022, curricula, and academic evaluations, supported by an extensive network of SDG-oriented partnerships. Numerous case studies demonstrate successful application of SDGs at IUS, positioning the institution as a model for how universities can drive meaningful change. This achievement underscores IUS’s strong commitment to advancing and strengthening sustainability initiatives for even greater impact.
