As part of the NATURED (Nature-bAsed soluTions for a jUst Resilience in thE Adriatic-Ionian cities) project, representatives from the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) visited the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo to explore opportunities for collaboration on climate resilience and environmental research.

Dr. Ismar Alagić, Project Manager, and Dr. Tarik Namas, project Quality Manager, were welcomed by Dr. Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Novo Sarajevo, along with her team. Discussions focused on designating the municipality as a pilot location for analyzing areas vulnerable to climate change, particularly those prone to flash floods and heatwaves. The visit also highlighted multiple opportunities for future cooperation between IUS and the municipality.

The NATURED project, part of the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme 2021-2027, aims to enhance urban resilience in the Adriatic-Ionian region by implementing nature-based solutions (NbS) to mitigate the effects of climate change. It focuses on data collection, climate vulnerability mapping, stakeholder engagement, and pilot projects, promoting sustainable urban development and disaster preparedness. Given the transnational nature of climate challenges, NATURED fosters regional cooperation among multiple countries to develop effective, scalable solutions.

During the visit, the IUS delegation toured the Civil Protection Center, recognized as the most technically advanced rescue facility in Bosnia and Herzegovina. An agreement was reached to ensure regular data exchange and ongoing coordination within the NATURED project, reinforcing joint efforts in environmental sustainability and risk management.
