On Thursday, June 18, 2026, a delegation of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), represented by Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı and Assistant Prof. Dr. Mustafa Krupalija, visited the Srebrenica Memorial Center and met with its Director, Mr. Emir Suljagić.
The visit provided an important opportunity to discuss possible areas of cooperation and future collaboration between IUS and the Srebrenica Memorial Center, particularly in the fields of education, research, remembrance culture, and student engagement.
As one of the most significant institutions dedicated to preserving the memory of the Srebrenica genocide, the Memorial Center holds a central role in documenting truth, honoring victims, supporting survivors, and educating future generations. Its work is of exceptional importance not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for the wider international community, as it contributes to the fight against genocide denial, the preservation of historical facts, and the development of responsible approaches to memory, justice, and peacebuilding.
During the visit, the IUS delegation also had the opportunity to tour the newly renovated Srebrenica Genocide Museum and learn more about its updated exhibitions and educational initiatives. The museum offers a powerful and deeply meaningful space for learning, reflection, and understanding the human consequences of genocide, while highlighting the importance of continuous education and institutional responsibility in preserving historical memory.
The meeting with Director Emir Suljagić opened space for further dialogue on how academic institutions and memorial institutions can work together to strengthen research, awareness, and educational programs related to genocide studies, transitional justice, human rights, and post-conflict societies.
IUS expresses its sincere gratitude to Director Emir Suljagić and his team for their warm hospitality, valuable insights, and the time they dedicated to the visit.
The International University of Sarajevo looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the Srebrenica Memorial Center and contributing to initiatives that promote education, remembrance, truth, and responsible engagement with the past.
