Cultivating Research Excellence in English Studies: Students as Active Contributors to Academic Knowledge

Cultivating Research Excellence in English Studies

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Dr. Damir Kahrić, professor of literature, research methodology and Shakespearean scholar at English Language and Literature (ELIT) and English Language and Literature, Teaching (ELT) study programs, delivered a guest lecture titled Extending Student Research: From Academic Practice to Knowledge Production”. The lecture was organized by Associate Prof. Dr. Vesna Suljić, ELIT Program Coordinator, as part of her MA course: ELIT505 – Comparative Literature: Theory and Practice.

The lecture was delivered online and focused on the ways in which student academic work can transcend course requirements and develop into meaningful, original contributions to the local and international academic community. Drawing on his extensive experience in research and publication, Dr. Kahrić emphasized the importance of viewing student research not merely as an exercise, but as a foundation for knowledge production. He introduced students to opportunities for publishing in high-quality journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, contributing to conference proceedings and actively participating in congresses, conferences, symposia and seminars. The lecture also highlighted the value of interdisciplinary approaches and originality in academic research, encouraging students to position their work within broader scholarly conversations. Students expressed appreciation for the lecture, noting that it provided valuable insight into how, as students of English Language and Literature, they can actively shape their academic paths, gain early research experience, and contribute meaningfully to their disciplines.

The organizers extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Damir Kahrić for his inspiring and motivating lecture, as well as to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vesna Suljić for her dedication to creating opportunities that empower students academically. Both professors continually strive to nurture critical thinking and research excellence, with the shared goal of shaping young scholars capable of contributing originally and confidently to the broader research matrix.
