Exploring Politics and International Relations at IUS Winter School “Show and Tell”

IUS Winter School “Show and Tell”

As part of the IUS Winter School “Show and Tell” 2026, the Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) study program organized an engaging workshop on Wednesday, January 20, 2026, welcoming high school students interested in politics, global affairs, and international relations.

The workshop opened with an introductory session led by Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Preljević, PSIR Program Coordinator, who presented the structure and academic focus of the PSIR program, highlighting its interdisciplinary approach and relevance in today’s interconnected world. The introduction was complemented by presentations from Prof. Dr. Muhidin Mulalić, a distinguished scholar in comparative history of civilizations, cultures, politics, philosophy, and religions, and Prof. Dr. Joseph J. Kaminski, an expert in religion and politics and international relations, with a particular focus on the Muslim world and comparative political theory. Together, they offered students valuable insight into the breadth of topics and perspectives covered within the PSIR program.

Following the introductory presentations, Prof. Dr. Muhidin Mulalić delivered an interactive lecture titled “Youth Leadership Competencies and Political Participation.” The lecture encouraged active discussion and reflection on the role of young people in political processes, leadership development, civic engagement, and democratic participation in contemporary societies. Students were invited to share their views and engage critically with the topic, making the session both dynamic and thought-provoking.

The workshop also featured contributions from Mr. Benjamin Ahmedbegović and Ms. Ema Horňáčková, President and Vice President of the Global Affairs and Political Studies Club (GAPS), and current PSIR students. They shared their personal study experiences at IUS and presented the work of GAPS, emphasizing the club’s commitment to promoting democratic dialogue, international awareness, and active student engagement with global political issues through debates, discussions, and events.

By combining academic perspectives, student experiences, and interactive discussion, the PSIR workshop offered participants a comprehensive introduction to studying political science and international relations at IUS. The session aimed to inspire future students to think critically about global challenges and to see themselves as active participants in shaping political and social change.
