Opening of Film Program of 33. International Festival Sarajevo Winter at International University of Sarajevo (IUS)

On the occasion of the opening of the Film program of 33. International Festival Sarajevo Winter, on Feb. 14, 2017, the press conference took place at the International University of Sarajevo. At the press conference, director of the Festival Mr. Ibrahim Spahić addressed the media, and with the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of IUS Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bal declared the Film Program of the Festival open. As part of program, more than 30 films from all over the world will be shown.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lejla Panjeta, Head of the Department of Arts, announced the three days of screenings, which will take place at the multimedia amphitheatre of IUS, in cooperation with the German partner Aug&Amp Media from Berlin.

“The films shown during first two days will reflect the motto of this year’s Festival, which is “Silk Road Art”, through authorial and stylistic inclining of the narration about the path of revelation and achieving artistic phenomena, and about the paths and pursuits of life of an individual. Films shown are live action films, documentaries, animated, and experimental films that won many awards in the past two years. These are high quality productions, whose themes remind of the inexhaustibility of artistic creation in the language of film, which speaks trough paths of revelation about the individualist and the collectivist in the art” said Dr. Panjeta.

On the third day of screenings, which will probably be the most interesting one, too, the best student films and examination projects of the Department of Arts in the past year will be shown, whose authors are: Faruk Garib, Taha Yasin Alan, Amna Bajrić and Ömer Faruk Bozkurt. Assistant Đenan Čevra lead the project of distribution of student films. Most of the films were made under the mentorship in montage of lecturer Yasir Göz.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to express their creativity in the proper way, and I would like to express my gratitude for this opportunity on their behalf as well”, said Čevra.

Dean of the IUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bal, said that this International Festival is a bridge that connects different cultures from all over the world.

“In this context, I am able to draw a parallel between our International University and the Festival. We are here gathering 48 different cultures from different parts of the world. This is why it is positive that we are partners in this project, and I hope that this partnership will be continued in the future”, said Dr. Bal.

The organizers emphasized the fact that the Film Program of this year’s Festival includes a program of Iranian films, which will be shown in Cinema City from Feb. 20 to 24, 2017, as well as the Japanese Film Week, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, which will be shown in Meeting Point cinema from Feb. 24 to 28, 2017.
