Institute for Emergency Medical Aid of Sarajevo Canton

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Medicine (MED) study program within the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) organized a field-based First Aid practical at the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid of Sarajevo Canton (Zavod za hitnu medicinsku pomoć Kantona Sarajevo). The activity aimed to introduce students to clinical readiness and build confidence in responding to urgent situations, as part of the First Aid course taught by Dr. Safija Softić-Namas, Adjunct Instructor at FMS.

During the session, students engaged with real-world emergency protocols, including patient assessment, scene safety, airway management, bleeding control, and safe patient transport principles. The workshop effectively complemented the First Aid lecture series by translating theoretical concepts into supervised, hands-on training focused on practical competence.

Throughout the visit, students observed the workflows of emergency medical professionals, explored equipment readiness, and learned about interprofessional communication in high-pressure situations. They also discussed best practices for early response and the importance of evidence-based procedures in emergency and community settings.

This practical exercise is part of IUS’s competency-based curriculum, which gradually introduces clinical skills in authentic healthcare environments under the guidance of qualified instructors.

IUS extends sincere thanks to the team at the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid of Sarajevo Canton for their collaboration and continued support in advancing experiential learning. Such initiatives enhance students’ preparedness for future clinical rotations and strengthen IUS’s ongoing commitment to public service and community health.
