Hikmet Karčić, the Ph.D. candidate at the Social and Political Sciences program, IUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, was granted scholarship by Keene State College, in conjunction with the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR).
The Department of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College, New Hampshire, the only university in the world that has undergraduate studies in holocaust and genocide, has welcomed Karčić in the fall semester.
At Keene State College, there is also Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, one of the oldest in the field in the USA. During his stay the at Keene, Karčić will deliver lectures in cooperation with the Cohen Center, and complete his Ph.D. research that focuses on concentration camps used by Bosnian Serbs during the war from 1992-95.
During his visit, one of Karčić’s goals is to make a comparative analysis of his research, which is possible to do by making a good use of the rich resources available at Kenne.
“This comparative aspect is very important. It is the main reason that I came here,” he said. “I want to learn about other genocides, and I want to learn how that is similar or different from the Bosnian case.”
Karčić will be able to observe the way in which American students study about genocide and holocaust, and gather ideas how to apply these techniques in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Karčić is also the senior associate of the Institute for Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks, and during his stay plans to give a series of lectures about the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in that region of the USA.
