Building Resilience: IUS Students Explore Emotional Skills and Stress Management

PSY interactive workshops

On October 7 and 10, 2025, the Psychology (PSY) study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) organized two interactive workshops as part of a joint initiative to mark World Mental Health Day. The activities were held within the “Days of Mental Health” campaign, organized by the Menssana Association in partnership with the Psychiatric Hospital Sarajevo and the Association of Psychologists of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FB&H).

The workshops, titled “Feel It to Heal It: Understanding and Naming Emotions” and “Thriving Under Pressure: Emotional Skills for University Life”, were conducted by IUS Master’s students Iman Hasanović-Dervišić and Lejla Mašinović, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mersiha Jusić. The aim was to raise awareness of the importance of emotional regulation and mental health among university students.

The first workshop focused on developing emotional awareness and vocabulary, helping students identify and name their emotions as a foundation for better self-regulation. The second explored how emotions affect focus, memory, and motivation, offering insights into distinguishing between helpful and unhelpful emotional responses. Participants also learned practical, time-sensitive strategies for managing stress and pressure before exams, presentations, and deadlines.

Students from various IUS study programs took part in the workshops, gaining both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience through engaging activities and discussions. They practiced skills such as stress mapping, handling pressure, and building their own “emotion regulation toolkit.”

Through initiatives like this, the PSY program continues to contribute to a more emotionally supportive university environment and to raise awareness of the importance of resilience and mental well-being in academic life.
