Mustafa DİLLİOĞLU, an alumnus of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), has built a remarkable career as the CEO of Maarif Schools in Hungary. His journey from a student in Sarajevo to a leader in international education demonstrates the power of determination, networking, and a global mindset nurtured at IUS.

A Solid Foundation in International Relations

Mustafa graduated with a degree in International Relations from IUS, a choice that profoundly shaped his professional trajectory. “Our program helped me understand how the international system works and how to act accordingly. This is crucial in my current role, as we establish private schools abroad as a soft-power tool of Türkiye,” he shares.

The education he received at IUS equipped him with essential skills, from understanding global dynamics to working effectively in multicultural environments. Studying alongside international peers expanded his worldview, fostering the open-mindedness and adaptability required in his field.

Leadership at Turkish Maarif Foundation

Today, Mustafa leads the operations of the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Hungary, an organization dedicated to public diplomacy through education. The Foundation’s mission is to nurture well-rounded individuals who contribute to global peace and welfare. Mustafa oversees the renovation and operation of a new campus in Budapest, a project that combines modern educational facilities with historical architectural preservation.

The campus, once a historic building from 1904, is being transformed into a state-of-the-art educational hub. “When completed, the school will provide top-notch facilities for 450 students, including laboratories, sports halls, and ateliers for robotics, music, and drama,” he explains.

A Life-Changing Experience at IUS

Reflecting on his time at IUS, Mustafa acknowledges its transformative impact. “Studying at IUS changed my life, especially my career. The diverse academic and extracurricular opportunities broadened my vision and helped me become an open-minded individual.”

During his time at IUS, Mustafa participated in various activities, including organizing academic conferences, cultural events, and even theatrical performances. One of these performances, held at the Sarajevo National Theatre, raised funds for a child’s surgery, showcasing the power of student initiatives.

The Role of Networking and Mentorship

Networking played a pivotal role in Mustafa’s career. Through conferences and events hosted by IUS, he connected with influential figures in his field, including professors who later supported his graduate studies in Türkiye. “Building strong connections during university can open doors for your career,” he advises.

Advice for Current Students

Mustafa encourages IUS students to embrace every opportunity university life offers. “Learning is not limited to courses and exams. Engaging with different cultures, understanding the history of Sarajevo, and building networks are equally important.” He emphasizes the value of skills such as adaptability, teamwork, time management, and communication.

A Grateful Alumnus

As Mustafa continues to excel in his career, he remains grateful to IUS for laying the foundation of his success. His story is a testament to the transformative power of education and the opportunities that come with an international perspective.
