Strategic Planning for Climate Resilience
On behalf of IUS, Dr. Ismar Alagić, Project Coordinator, and Dr. Tarik Namas, Quality Manager of the NATURED project, met with key representatives of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo. The municipal delegation included Mr. Muhamed Memišević, Assistant to the Mayor for Civil Protection, Mr. Haris Hokurić, Assistant to the Mayor for Local Development, Ms. Alica Kulaš, Assistant to the Mayor for Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Ms. Dijana Čučula, Assistant to the Mayor for Investments and Environmental Protection, and Mr. Nijaz Hromo, Expert Associate.
Discussions centered on the development of a Joint Development Strategy aimed at increasing the resilience of cities in the Adriatic-Ionian region to climate change. The participants reached a high level of agreement and outlined concrete activities, along with deadlines for their realization in the upcoming period.
Citizen Engagement and Action Plans
The second focus of the meeting was on activities related to Work Package 3 of the NATURED project, which emphasizes citizen and stakeholder involvement in defining action plans for the implementation of nature-based solutions. The discussions led to clearly defined responsibilities and a timeline for engaging citizens and ensuring their participation in shaping practical, sustainable solutions.
Pilot Role of Novo Sarajevo
The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo has been designated as the pilot municipality for activities implemented by the International University of Sarajevo within the NATURED project. This role underscores the municipality’s importance as a testing ground for innovative approaches to climate resilience and citizen-driven environmental action.
