On Monday, May 11, 2026, four ELIT and ELT alumni - Admir Šiljak, Nermina Hot, Fatima Ejubović, and Ajla Pervan - shared their post-graduation experiences with current ELIT/ELT students. During the event, the alumni reflected on their academic journeys at IUS, highlighting how the courses and practical experiences helped them develop the skills needed to succeed in today’s professional environment.
The speakers also emphasized the importance of volunteering, extracurricular involvement, and networking in building stronger employment prospects and gaining valuable real-world experience.
Throughout the discussion, the alumni demonstrated the wide range of career opportunities available to ELIT/ELT graduates. They shared personal insights into job searching, applying for positions, changing career paths, and adapting to different professional environments.
Admir Šiljak, who currently works for an NGO, encouraged students to broaden their knowledge and explore diverse fields of study. During his time at IUS, he volunteered in various areas, which helped him gain valuable experience in fields such as economics, finance, and law.
Nermina Hot explained that the translation and interpreting courses within the ELIT program helped her secure a position as an interpreter for an American call center. After graduation, she also worked as a teacher at the ELS School at IUS, where she discovered a strong passion for teaching and plans to continue developing her career as an English language instructor.
Fatima Ejubović shared that she currently works with World Vision International in the field of migration and humanitarian work, while also serving as an adjunct instructor teaching English for Academic Purposes at IUS. She highlighted how volunteering in student organizations and projects helped her strengthen her interpersonal and professional skills, which were recognized by her current employer. She also noted that one of the most valuable skills she gained during her studies was the ability to think critically, analyze information, and apply those skills in professional writing, particularly in preparing reports and official documents.
Ajla Pervan spoke about her experience working as an editor and content writer during her BA and MA studies. She explained that her interests have since shifted toward research and teaching and emphasized the importance of networking in helping students gain insight into potential career paths and professional opportunities.
After each presentation, students were invited to ask questions and actively participated in discussions related to the alumni’s experiences and career development.
The alumni concluded by reminding students that ELIT/ELT graduates possess a versatile skill set that opens doors to many career opportunities. From copywriting, editing, translation, and interpreting to teaching and other professions requiring critical reading, writing, communication, and presentation skills, ELIT/ELT students are well equipped for a variety of professional paths.
