Asking questions, exchanging ideas and building academic connections were central messages at the International University of Sarajevo’s Graduate Studies Orientation Day, held on Monday, October 5, 2026. Welcoming new graduate students for the 2026/2027 academic year, the event combined encouragement for their research journey with practical guidance on navigating graduate studies at IUS.
IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı emphasized the importance of asking questions, networking and engaging in research. His address encouraged students to approach their studies with curiosity and to recognize the value of the connections they build with fellow students and academics.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamza Smajić, Graduate Council Director, highlighted research and discussion as essential parts of graduate education. He encouraged students to actively explore ideas and engage in academic dialogue, underscoring the importance of intellectual exchange throughout their studies.
Complementing these academic perspectives, Ms. Merima Drinjak, Graduate Studies Specialist, introduced the practical and administrative aspects of graduate studies. Her presentation covered the Graduate Manual and study rulebooks, helping students understand the procedures, responsibilities and resources that will guide their progress.
The program also provided opportunities for students to ask questions and meet members of the IUS graduate community. Informal networking offered a chance to make new connections and continue conversations beyond the presentations.
By bringing together academic guidance and practical information, the orientation helped students begin their graduate studies with clearer expectations and a shared focus on research, dialogue and collaboration.
