IUS Representatives at MDTist Performance of Seyahatname 2 in National Theater Sarajevo

In the National Theater Sarajevo, on February 17, 2017, Istanbul State Opera and Ballet performed a modern dance piece Travelogue 2 (Seyahatname 2), choreographed by Beyhan Murphy. The performance was part of the International Festival Sarajevo Winter, organized in cooperation with the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo.

The love of travel has been for thousands of years an innate characteristic in the cultural genes of Turkish people, originally nomadic people for whom migration was a way of life. One of the greatest Ottoman travelers who first comes to one's mind is Evliya Çelebi, who described the places he saw in the 17th century in such a vivid detail in the first and the greatest travel book of the Turkish literature – Seyahatname. Based on this work, and as a sequel to Travelogue, Beyhan Murphy’s  Travelogue 2 was made for Istanbul State Opera and Ballet's modern dance group MDTist (Modern Dance Theater Istanbul), in honor of Evliya Çelebi’s 400th anniversary celebrations. Evliya Çelebi’s travel memoirs and famous contemporary writer Elif Şafak’s passages, interwoven with Beyhan Murphy’s choreographic compositions, take the audience through a multidimensional journey that brings to life Evliya Çelebi’s 17th century dervishes, alchemists, and travelers.

Dean of FASS Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bal, Dean of FEDU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Boşnak, Assoc.
