Students organize food exhibition to help others

Once again, IUS students proved they have a big heart and that, in these days that precede the Eid-ul Adha holiday, they did not forget those less fortunate. So, on Friday, November 20th 2009, IUS International Relations Club organized food exhibition that had an aim to gather enough money to buy Eid gifts for children without parents and in the state of social needs living at the Children’s home Bjelave.

“We are very excited to be organizing this exhibition, which represents just one part of charity activities done at IUS and by IUS students. We hope to make these holidays happier and better for the orphans at Children’s Home Bjelave. Our success is measured by the number of smiles we put on children’s faces and we hope there will be many of them” said Oğuzhan Gedik, president of the International Relations Club. He added that it is planned that the gifts will be delivered to Children’s Home Bjelave by the beginning of next week.

Around forty students, professors and their spouses joined together and actively participated in the organization of this charity event by preparing various types of dishes that were then offered in the IUS Canteen for others to buy. During the exhibition that lasted from 13.00 to 15.00, canteen was crowded with students who wanted to give their contribution to this honorable cause.

“Food exhibitions always allow us to make two beautiful actions together – eating and helping others. This way, money people spend goes both for them and for the others” explained Hatun Sevgi, FASS student and one of those who also participated in the exhibition.
