Students enrolled in the course Psychology of Adulthood and Aging (PSY414), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Lejla Mustoo Başer, recently visited the Cantonal Public Institution "Family Counseling Center Sarajevo" as part of their practical learning experience and professional development.
During the visit, students were welcomed by Director Osman Šaljo and Senior Professional Associate Aida Brdar, who introduced them to the work, organization, and professional practices of the institution. Through an informative and engaging session, students had the opportunity to learn more about the Center’s mission, its role within the social protection system, and its commitment to providing professional psychosocial support, counselling, therapeutic services, and preventive programs for individuals, families, and communities.
The representatives of the Family Counseling Center presented the students with insights into the institution’s areas of work, including counselling and therapeutic treatment, preventive and developmental programs, research activities, and professional support provided to organizations and institutions working with families. Students were also introduced to the realities of professional practice, including the diverse needs of service users, challenges encountered by practitioners, the importance of ethical principles in psychological work, and the role of professional supervision in ensuring quality and responsible practice.
This visit represented a valuable opportunity for students to connect theoretical knowledge gained through academic study with practical experiences from the field. Meeting experienced professionals and learning directly from practitioners contributed to a deeper understanding of the role of psychologists and multidisciplinary teams in supporting family well-being and addressing complex psychosocial needs.
