From Training to Practice: IUS Strengthens Expertise in Qualifications Recognition

IUS Strengthens Expertise in Qualifications Recognition

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) continued its work on improving academic and administrative procedures through participation in professional development events in Mostar on October 13–15, 2026. Hosted by the Centre for Information and Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education (CIP), the events focused on automatic recognition of qualifications and recognition of prior learning.

IUS was represented by Jahja Imamović, Deputy Secretary General for Legal and Administrative Affairs; Anisa Selmanović, Faculty of Law (FLW) Secretary; and Adnan Beganović, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) Secretary.

On October 13, a peer learning activity held under the Erasmus+ Support-AR project explored practical approaches to implementing automatic recognition at higher education institutions. The program included European perspectives, institutional experiences and discussions on tools that support recognition, including digital resources, qualification frameworks and diploma supplements.

The following day, the conference “The Path towards Automatic Recognition and Recognition of Specific Forms of Learning” examined recognition principles, prior learning and the legal framework needed to put these approaches into practice. It brought together higher education institutions and relevant authorities to exchange experiences and discuss common challenges.

A follow-up meeting on October 15 focused on developing and applying rulebooks for recognition of prior learning and automatic recognition, with particular relevance to higher education institutions in Sarajevo Canton.

For IUS, these activities form part of an ongoing process of staff training and procedural development, in line with the University’s action plans and accreditation-related commitments. The knowledge and experiences exchanged will inform further work towards clearer, more consistent recognition procedures that support students and academic mobility.
