Navigating Legal Pathways

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the IUS Faculty of Law (FLW) and the Balkan Studies Center (BSC) jointly organized a workshop entitled “Employment of Foreigners in Canton Sarajevo: Challenges and Perspectives.” This event was held within the framework of the project “Challenges of the Integration of Foreigners in the Work Environment and Everyday Life in Canton Sarajevo, with an Insight into Positive Practices,” funded by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Canton Sarajevo.

The workshop featured Mr. Neven Akšamija, Assistant Director of the Labor and Employment Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the guest speaker.

In his presentation, Mr. Akšamija addressed the legal framework governing the employment of foreign nationals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting key differences between the legal systems of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. He also discussed the practical discrepancies between legal theory and its implementation in practice. Drawing on his extensive professional experience, Mr. Akšamija elaborated on the procedural complexities involved in obtaining work permits, the legal status of foreign workers, and the systemic challenges they face. His lecture was enriched with practical examples, which significantly contributed to the participants’ understanding of the subject matter.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Akšamija for delivering such an informative and engaging presentation and wish him continued success in his professional endeavors.
