Job Shadowing at IUS: Italian Teachers on a Journey of Learning, Connection, and Cultural Exchange

Job Shadowing at IUS

As part of the Erasmus+ Exchange Program, the IUS Lifelong Learning Center – IUS Life successfully hosted a Job Shadowing Program from April 7–10, 2025, at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS). The program welcomed a group of dedicated high school teachers from four schools across the Friuli and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy.

This dynamic and enriching experience included a variety of professional and cultural activities: engaging pedagogical workshops, insightful school visits, and immersive local experiences. One of the highlights was the visit to the Secondary Business-Commercial and Trade School Sarajevo, where participants observed live lessons, exchanged ideas with local educators, and gained practical insights into Bosnia’s educational practices.

The program also provided a taste of Bosnian culture – literally. Teachers rolled up their sleeves to prepare the traditional dessert hurmašica, adding a sweet and memorable flavor to their visit.

A series of tailored workshops offered thought-provoking content on modern teaching practices:

  • “Growing Together” by Ms. Nermina Šegalo
  • “Sustainability in Education” by Ms. Mehtap Özer-Isović
  • “Inclusive Education” by Ms. Sibela Beširević
  • “Can AI Replace Teachers?” by Mr. Kemo Ćorović

At the end of the program, participants received certificates recognizing their attendance and contributions. More importantly, they left IUS with meaningful experiences, fresh perspectives, and new friendships that will last well beyond the program.
