On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the Rector of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, IUS General Secretary, Mr. İbrahim İnal, and Manager of the International Relations Office (IRO), Mr. Mugdim Alihodžić, met with the newly appointed Director of the Service for Foreigner’s Affairs (SPS) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Žarko Laketa. Besides the Director, the meeting was also attended by the Chief of the SPS Cabinet, Mr. Goran Blagojević.
IUS Rector congratulated Mr. Laketa on his new position and wished him success in his work. He also referred to the previous collaboration between IUS, the Service and the Field Office Sarajevo, emphasizing its exceptional importance in regulating visas and residence permits for all our students who are not citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Rector also invited Mr. Laketa to visit IUS and deliver a lecture to students on the current topic of migration, which has been recognized as one of the biggest challenges to the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Laketa, based on his 30 years of work experience in various security agencies, can provide detailed information on this issue.
Additionally, it was proposed that IUS, through the relevant departments with sufficient expertise in the field, assist SPS in regulating residence permits and visas when possible. This collaboration aims to contribute to amending and harmonizing the existing legal regulations to enhance the welfare of society as a whole.
