IUS Delegation Pays Visit to Foundation “Alija Izetbegović”

International University of Sarajevo (IUS) Delegation led by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, University Communications Office Manager, Mrs. Velida Handžić-Mirica and Senior Assistant, Mr. Hamza Preljević paid a visit to the Foundation „Alija Izetbegović“ on Monday, January 30, 2023. They were welcomed by the Foundation representatives, Mr. Zijad Ljevaković, President of the Foundation’s Board, Mrs. Sabina Berberović, one of the founders and Deputy President of the Foundation, Mrs. Esma Zlatar, Secretary General, and Mr. Dino Softić, Assistant to the Secretary General.

Mr. Ljevaković expressed his whole-hearted appreciation for the visit and underlined the need for IUS and the Foundation „Alija Izetbegović“ to lay the ground for more intensive cooperation in the time to come. Mr. Dino Softić informed the IUS delegation of the positive feedback that they have received from the 18 participants of the IT Sector Human Resources Development Program in BiH which was launched as a joint project of BIGMEV and the Alija Izetbegović Foundation to support the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is implemented in partnership with Istanbul Ticaret University and International University of Sarajevo. 

Mrs. Sabina Beglerović and Mrs. Esma Zlatar presented the vision, mission and the activities of the Foundation which builds on the preservation and promotion of the intellectual legacy of Alija Izetbegović as a European Muslim thinker and the first President of the Presidency of the independent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Rector Yıldırım acknowledged the importance of the late President Izetbegović and ascertained the need for the current and upcoming generations to learn about his intellectual legacy and contribution to the promotion of BiH's multicultural heritage and intercultural dialogue. In view of the above, he pledged to support joint implementation of activities of the Foundation and IUS. These would include organization of joint events, summer schools, publishing and translation of various works on Alija Izetbegović and developing of programs and projects which would bring together BiH diaspora. It was concluded that the cooperation and realization of joint activities will be conducted through the IUS Balkan Studies Centre.
