The management of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), led by the President of the IUS Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Sevgi Kurtulmuş, SEDEF Foundation President Mr. Hasan Topaloğlu, IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, and IUS Secretary General Mr. Ibrahim İnal, recently held a high-level meeting with H.E. Yousef Khalawi, Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD). The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in the development of the halal industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The ICCD is an international organization affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and serves as the largest representative body of the private sector in 57 Islamic countries through national federations and chambers of commerce. It also includes 67 affiliated business entities from Muslim minority communities in non-Muslim countries.

During the meeting, the ICCD reiterated its vision of establishing Bosnia and Herzegovina as a leading halal hub in Europe. A key milestone in this effort was marked by the recent signing of a cooperation agreement between the ICCD and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, aimed at enhancing and promoting the halal food sector.

As part of this strategic initiative, IUS is expected to play a significant role in capacity building across various halal-related sectors, including Islamic finance, halal tourism, and halal food production. The university will support this effort by organizing conferences, professional seminars and workshops, as well as offering specialized training programs and academic education tailored to the halal industry.

Looking forward, IUS is actively exploring further opportunities for collaboration with the ICCD, including the development of joint training initiatives and academic research projects that will contribute to long-term, sustainable impact in the halal economy and related fields.
