It is our great pleasure to announce that The first IIIT European Summer school will be hosted by the International University of Sarajevo in the period from August 24 –September 7, 2013. It is organized by the IIIT London Office, Institute for Epistemological Studies Europe, Brussels and Centre for Advanced Studies, Sarajevo in cooperation with The Fairfax Institute, USA. The program will be designed for European undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in Islamic studies, humanities or the social sciences and who are interested in developing their knowledge and expertise in the topics listed below:
• Islamic Worldview and Educational Reform
• How to Deal With the Qur'an and the Sunnah
• Higher Objectives of Islamic Law and Ethics (Maqasid al-Shariah)
• Major Themes in Contemporary Islamic Thought
• Islamic Political Thought and Application
• Major Themes in Contemporary Western Thought
• The Future of Faith in Europe
• Islam in Europe: Challenges Ahead
• Parent-Child Relations
• Islamic Economics and Finance
Speakers will be: Professor Tariq Ramadan, Professor Jorgen S. Nielson, Professor Israr Ahmad Khan, Professor Mustafa Ozel, Professor Mato Zovkić, Professor Enes Karić, Professor Fikret Karcic, Dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic, Dr. Jonathan A. C. Brown, Dr. Dževada Šuško, Dr. Ermin Sinanović, Dr. Fathi Malkawi, Dr. Abdelwahab El-Affendi, Dr. Ahmet Alibašić, Dr. Anas Al-Shaikh-Ali, CBE, Dr. Hisham Altalib, Dr. Mehmet Asutay, Muhammad A. Aziz, Dr. Jamal Barzinji, Dr. Beddy Ebnou and Mrs. Kathleen Roche-Nagi.
The program will also provide an opportunity for participants to present and discuss their particular research in workshops. Eight days will be reserved for seminars, two days for presentations and workshops by participants of their current research, and three days for local educational trips. During the course of the program, participants will complete a total of 80 hours of direct research and instruction and will receive a certificate of attendance from the organizers and the International University of Sarajevo.
