From April 10–13, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Orkun Aydın participated as a panelist at the 10th Psychiatry Summit and the 17th Anxiety Congress held in Antalya, Türkiye. The panel discussion, titled "The Use of Digital Technology in Psychiatry: An Inevitable Outcome?", brought together experts to explore the future of mental health care in the digital age.
Dr. Aydın’s talk, “Digital Technologies in Psychiatric Practice: A Blessing or a Curse?”, examined the growing presence of digital tools - such as telepsychiatry, mobile apps, and AI-based interventions - in the field of psychiatry. It was emphasized that while these technologies offer numerous benefits, including increased accessibility, reduced stigma, and more personalized treatment, they also raise important questions about privacy, ethics, and clinical effectiveness.
Digital psychiatry holds great promises for transforming traditional care models by enabling interactive and data-driven treatment approaches. Moreover, real-time data collection through digital tools can support early-symptom detection and preventative care. However, there is an urgent need for comprehensive regulations and ethical guidelines to ensure these innovations are used safely and responsibly.
