The IUS TURBOS Rocketry Team proudly represented the International University of Sarajevo at this year’s European Researchers’ Night, presenting its award-winning rocket “Inat” to visitors in Sarajevo.
The appearance came only weeks after an outstanding international success for the team. Earlier this month, “Inat” won first place in the global category of the TEKNOFEST Rocket Competition 2026, where 73 finalist teams competed after being selected from more than 2,000 applications. The achievement marked a major milestone for IUS TURBOS and demonstrated the strength of student innovation, engineering knowledge, teamwork, and perseverance at IUS.
European Researchers’ Night is one of the largest science outreach initiatives in Europe, created to bring research and innovation closer to the public and to encourage greater interest in science, technology, engineering, and research, especially among younger generations.
At the event in Sarajevo, the IUS TURBOS stand attracted significant attention throughout the evening. Children, parents, students, and other visitors gathered in large numbers to see “Inat” up close, learn more about how the rocket was designed and developed, and speak directly with members of the team.
The interest of young visitors was especially encouraging. For many children and teenagers, seeing a real student-built rocket and meeting the people behind it offered a tangible example of what can be achieved through curiosity, knowledge, hard work, and a passion for engineering.
Team members had the opportunity to share the story behind “Inat,” explain some of the technical challenges involved in developing the rocket, and speak about their experience at TEKNOFEST. Their participation transformed the IUS stand into a lively space for questions, conversations, and inspiration.
For IUS, participation in European Researchers’ Night was also an opportunity to highlight the importance of hands-on learning and student-led research and innovation. The international success of IUS TURBOS shows how academic knowledge can be transformed into ambitious practical projects capable of competing at the highest level.
After its first-place finish at TEKNOFEST, “Inat” continues to attract attention and inspire new audiences. Its presentation at European Researchers’ Night showed that the team’s achievement goes far beyond the competition itself — it also has the power to spark curiosity and encourage future generations to explore science and engineering.
