On Monday, 16th of May, 2016, International University of Sarajevo organized the first Let’s Talk Rhetoric Competition for high school students.
In total, 30 students from the different high school participated in this Competition who talked about the topic “Youth as a guarantee of better future”. The main aim of the Competition was to encourage young people to present their opinion and work on improving the young people as a nucleus of every society, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“This is the first project in a series of Let’s Talk projects that are going to be organized at IUS. We wanted to motivate and encourage youth to present their solutions to the problems that many youth are facing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, the promotion of the culture of dialogue as well as improving the rhetoric skills were additional aims for us because we believe that there is no great leader if he or she is not a great speaker. Those kind of examples we have in many countries all around the world”, said Ismail Ćidić, supervisor and coordinator of Let’s Talk Competition.
The Competition was supported by the Minister of culture and sports of Canton Sarajevo Mr. Mirvad Kurić. Also, he was one of the judges in the final round.
The winner of the first Let’s Talk Rhetoric Competition was Džumana Parlić who represented Behram-begova medresa in Tuzla. The runner-up was Harun Aldobašić who represented Gazi Husrev-begova medresa in Sarajevo and Ahmed Šarić from Medical School of Sarajevo – Jezero won the third place. IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu and minister Mr. Mirvad Kurić presented the awards (300, 200 and 100 KM) to the best speakers.
