IUS Hosts Fourth International Applied Statistics Congress

Applied Statistics Congress

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted the 4th International Applied Statistics Congress in hybrid mode from September 26-29, 2023. This Congress was a collaborative effort involving Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, International Balkan University, and Kayseri University. The event was dedicated to honoring Prof. Dr. Orhan Kavuncu, a prominent expert in the field of statistics. The distinguished gathering included the Rectors of all four universities, including Prof. Kavuncu himself.

The opening ceremony commenced with a speech by Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. He emphasized the significance of organizing international scientific events that promote the exchange of best practices, knowledge, and expertise in the field. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, the Rector of IUS, delivered the welcoming speech. He expressed IUS's honor in hosting such a vital international academic congress, featuring more than 100 submitted papers from various countries. Prof. Yıldırım also invited the guests to explore Sarajevo and its surroundings, encouraging them to become acquainted with the city's multicultural context.

Associate Professor Dr. Liza Alili Sulejmani, representing the International Balkan University, addressed the Congress, underscoring the importance of statistics in our lives and its role in transforming data into science. Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Karamustafa, the Rector of Kayseri University, emphasized that our world cannot be imagined without applied statistics. Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz, the Rector of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, concluded the opening speeches by expressing his belief that statistics enable us to understand the world around us and find solutions to everyday challenges.

At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Orhan Kavuncu addressed the attendees and expressed his gratitude for being a part of this significant international congress. He reminded the audience that statistics are present in many everyday situations, and awareness of their role is crucial. Prof. Kavuncu received a token of appreciation from Member of Parliament Mr. Nurettin Alan, who expressed his delight at having the honor of meeting Prof. Kavuncu, one of the greatest Turkish minds in the field of statistics.
