“Do What You Love and Try to Be the Best in What You Do” - Mr. Edin Mehić Gives an Engaging Talk to IUS Students

An engaging and practical lecture titled „Desirable Skills Employers Look for in Students“ was held on Monday, February 21 by the AntColony company representatives. Led by their founder, Mr. Edin Mehić, a serial entrepreneur, proven business executive, angel investor advisor passionate about growing ideas, people, and money to build companies and projects, the lecture stirred great interest among IUS students.

Mr. Mehić's diverse range of expertise is built on proven experience in building and managing companies, investing, mentoring, and consulting for start-ups and SMEs. He contributed to development of applications used by some of the largest multinational companies such as KOOLA, EDU720, Goody and Bizbook. He is perhaps most well-known for founding and running the company Kolektiv d.o.o. (MojPosao.ba).

He shared his know-how and experience of starting up a business from scratch and what it takes to become successful in the business world focusing on the conditions that the current generations are faced with. Mr. Mehić advised the students on the most important influences for their career indicating that the key lies in their attitude and personality in addition to hard work, dedication, knowledge and skills. He further added that one's own progress is a motivational factor and that we should always strive to be a better version of ourselves. He concluded that successful people are proactive people who do not waste their time and energy on things they cannot control.

A former IUS student, Irfan Durić shared with the fellow students his journey from IUS to being an employee at the AntColony. He noted that as a Software Engineer, he is currently working on multiple start-ups adding that although a junior in the company, he receives full support in his daily tasks together with the freedom and trust to conduct his work and make mistakes, since failures are part of the learning process.

The event was concluded by an extensive Q&A session whereby students were keen on getting additional information and on how to write a good CV/cover letter, tips and tricks of a successful interview and perks and threats of running their own start-up companies.
