On Monday, September 25, 2023, the curtains fell on the Summer School of Diplomacy, marking the culmination of an inspiring journey for 12 ambitious young students coming from various higher education institutions. This year's summer school was a testament to the power of education and collaboration, bringing together diverse minds interested in advancing their careers in the field of diplomacy.
The backbone of this remarkable endeavor was the Balkans Studies Centre of the International University of Sarajevo, in collaboration with the Alija Izetbegović Museum and Homework Hub. Together, they crafted a program that provided a unique platform for these aspiring diplomats to learn from the experts in the field.
One of the hallmarks of this summer school was the presence of distinguished lecturers who shared their wisdom in politics, diplomacy, economics, and education. Each day was graced by the presence of Ambassadors serving in Bosnia and Herzegovina from Spain, Turkiye, Egypt, Palestine, China, and Greece. Their firsthand experiences and expertise illuminated a range of topics and provided valuable insights and guidance to the eager minds, enriching their understanding of the multifaceted world of diplomacy.
As the days unfolded, the summer school participants were not just passive learners but active participants in discussions, debates, and diplomatic simulations, enhancing their practical skills and knowledge in the areas ranging from human rights and diplomacy to the role of women in Bosnian diplomacy, post-war challenges in Bosnia, UN sustainable development goals, green diplomacy, new economic diplomacy, and the strategic use of education in diplomacy.
The climax of the Summer School on Diplomacy was the official closing ceremony, presided over by Ms. Nađa Berberović-Dizdarević, the Director of the Alija Izetbegović Museum. During this momentous occasion, she presented the participants with certificates of attendance, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to the program. Moreover, the students were awarded scholarship certificates for postgraduate studies at the International University of Sarajevo, providing them with a further opportunity to excel in the realm of diplomacy.
This year's Summer School of Diplomacy was not just a gathering of students but a convergence of aspirations and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. It celebrated diversity, fostered collaboration, and ignited the spark of diplomacy in the hearts and minds of the participants.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participants and express our gratitude to the organizers, partners, lecturers, and ambassadors for making this summer school a resounding success.
