The Faculty of Education (FEDU) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) recently hosted a meaningful TLT Alumni Talks session, bringing together three distinguished graduates of the Turkish Language and Literature, Teaching (TLT) study program - Emina Čišija, Lejla Žuga, and Zerina Omberbašić.
As members of the program’s first generation of graduates, the alumni shared their academic journeys, reflected on the early years of the program, and spoke about their transition from university life to the professional world. Their stories offered current students a valuable perspective on how the program has developed and what it means to be part of a pioneering generation.
A central message of the session was the importance of combining academic study with practical experience. The alumni encouraged students to seek opportunities beyond the classroom, highlighting the value of part-time work, extracurricular involvement, event organization, and networking in shaping their professional paths. Their own careers - spanning education, translation, public relations, and academic advancement - demonstrated the versatility of the degree and the many directions it can lead.
The speakers also emphasized that success after graduation depends not only on academic achievement, but also on soft skills, initiative, and active engagement in the university community. Through their honest and inspiring reflections, they encouraged students to make the most of their time at IUS and to build the skills and connections that will support them long after graduation.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, leaving students with fresh motivation and practical advice. The experiences of the first generation of TLT graduates served as a powerful reminder that academic dedication, professional curiosity, and active participation can open many doors.
