Dr. Nermina Jerković Delivers Lecture on Irregular Migration and Security Risks

Dr. Nermina Jerković Delivers Lecture

As part of the FLW Public Lectures Series, the IUS Faculty of Law (FLW) hosted a public lecture on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, delivered by Dr. Nermina Jerković, an expert in international migration. Titled “Irregular Migration Flows through the Western Balkans and Emerging Security Risks,” the lecture addressed one of the most pressing regional issues at the intersection of migration, law, and security.

In her presentation, Dr. Jerković examined key data and recent trends related to irregular migration movements across the Western Balkans, with particular emphasis on major migration routes and the increasing risks associated with trafficking in human beings. She offered a broader perspective on the complexity of migration patterns in the region, drawing attention to the security and humanitarian dimensions of the issue.

The lecture also provided a valuable overview of the relevant international and national legal frameworks addressing trafficking in human beings as a criminal offence. In addition to the legal perspective, Dr. Jerković highlighted the practical challenges that arise in the implementation of these frameworks, pointing to the gap that often exists between legal standards and realities on the ground.

By bringing together questions of migration governance, regional security, and legal accountability, the lecture offered students and attendees an important opportunity to engage with a highly relevant contemporary topic.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jerković for her insightful and thought-provoking contribution and wish her continued success in her future academic and professional work.
