The Media and Communication (MAC) study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) recently hosted Kerim Sefer, journalist and producer, for an inspiring guest lecture titled “Consuming Narratives: Social Media and the Battle for Attention.”
Organized within the MAC205 Internet Studies course, led by Assistant Dino Cviko, MA, the session opened an important and timely discussion on the ways social media shapes narratives, captures public attention, and transforms how information is created, consumed, and interpreted in today’s fast-moving digital environment.
Drawing on his professional experience in journalism and media production, Kerim Sefer offered students valuable insights into the dynamics of digital communication and the growing competition for attention in the online sphere. The lecture encouraged participants to think critically about the role of social media in influencing public discourse, framing stories, and shaping perceptions in an increasingly saturated media landscape.
The session also provided students with the opportunity to connect theoretical concepts from the classroom with real-world media practice, reinforcing the importance of critical media literacy and analytical thinking in contemporary communication studies.
The Media and Communication study program extends its sincere thanks to Mr. Kerim Sefer for sharing his knowledge, experience, and valuable perspectives with our students, as well as to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.
