Seminar: European Politics and European Integration: Perspectives from Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, undergraduate and graduate students of Social and Political Sciences (SPS) Program had the opportunity to participate in the seminar on the topic `European Politics and European Integration: Perspectives from Bosnia and Herzegovina`. Guest speaker of the seminar was Yvonne Galligan, Professor of Comparative Politics at Queen´s University Belfast, who visited IUS in affiliation with Horizon 2020 SAGE Gender Equality Project.

Students of Social and Political Sciences Program had the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics starting with European identity and concept of self-determination with Professor Yvonne Galligan. Students expressed their ideas about possible solutions for Catalonia, gave argument based predictions about the status of the United Kingdom in the European Union after the Brexit and integration of the ex-Yugoslavia countries in the European Union. The seminar was finalized with suggestions regarding the integration of the ex-Yugoslavia countries to the European Union and significant reflections regarding how integration can possibly influence the politics and cooperation of the countries. There was a lively exchange of views, informed by prior research, throughout the seminar. Professor Galligan was very impressed by the preparatory work the students had made before the seminar.

Professor Yvonne Galligan encouraged organization of a similar seminar in the near future as all participants found the discussions very beneficial. IUS would like to use this opportunity to thank one more time our guest, Professor Yvonne Galligan and encourage students to take part in similar events.

The seminar was initiated by SPS Program Assistant Enna Zone Đonlić and organised by Social and Political Sciences Program, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
