The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement: our student team has advanced to the semi-finals at TEKNOFEST, one of the largest and most prestigious technology and innovation events in Turkey!

Under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Dr. Jasmin Šutković, the project group named IUS - IEEE Marmara Bioengineering Team is participating in the Lung Cancer category of the TEKNOFEST ONCOLOGY 3T competition. The team is coordinated at IUS by Zehra Mercan, a double degree student in the Bioengineering program between IUS and Marmara University, together with fellow double degree student Sümeyye Ayşe Genç. Additionally, three students from Marmara University – Emre Kundakçı (team captain), Kiana Rahimi, and Setenay Sıla Tunç – are also actively contributing to the development and implementation of the project.

Their research focuses on investigating the role of ALK1 and its interaction partners in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) through advanced in silico approaches. By identifying new protein interaction partners and conducting drug repurposing and molecular docking studies, the team aims to propose novel therapeutic strategies for ALK1-positive NSCLC cases.

Through the joint double diploma program, students are not only gaining world-class education at two prestigious institutions, but also building cross-border collaborations that open the door to groundbreaking research and international success.

We are proud of our students’ outstanding performance and determination. As they prepare for the semi-finals, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and full support to our team, with great hope for even greater success ahead!
