On December 2, 2021, IUS United Nations Association Club organized an interactive workshop with IUS Palestinian and international students with the goal of commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The aim of the UNA workshop was to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for students to learn more about not only the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and suffering of Palestinians, but also to talk about the Palestinian culture, tradition, education, challenges, relations with different countries and its economic and tourism potentials.
The introductory speech was given by Prof. Dr. Joseph Kaminski who emphasized the importance of this date and solidarity. After that, the participants were divided into four working groups and given the following topics: Palestinian Culture, Tradition and Customs; Palestinian Education; Palestinian Economy and Economic Potentials; and Palestine’s Relations and Cooperation with Other Countries from the International Community (current and potential friends). After group discussions and experiences shared by our Palestinian students, the groups presented the main points of their discussions and shared what they learned. The participants pointed out the uniqueness of the Palestinian culture, tradition and food which is currently under threat of being lost. Moreover, many young people face difficulties in education due to not only expensive scholarship fees and education process, but also due to constant damage of educational institutions during attacks.
Club president, Anes Kadić, concluded the workshop emphasizing that the goal of this event was fulfilled since many students showed interest to learn about this topic by actively participating in the workshop. Moreover, he expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Sarajevo which supported the event by providing material, literature and leaflets that participants used during the workshop.
